Rugby was the winner on a glorious day at the Glebelands as a game was played despite the opposition only being able to field 8 of their own players. A big thanks must go to the 8 St Julians players who agreed to play for the opposition to allow the game to go ahead.
The game being 11 a side and the number of familiar faces in the opposition ranks led to the game having an exhibition feel about it. The opposition were a bit disjointed, which is to be expected given almost half of their players were Saints, and this showed throughout as the red and greens were able to exert their dominance in most aspects of the game. The final score ending 39-10 was a fair reflection of this.
The Young Saints played some good rugby and there were a couple of stand out performances. Blaide Howells displayed a high work rate around the park to compliment his usual good work in the wide channels, but the special mention must go to Tay Smith for his hat trick of tries which came from angles of running that Ray Gravell/Scott Gibbs/Jamie Roberts (delete according to your age) would have been proud of.
The Young Saints have two weeks off now before a run of tough games that include Chepstow, Abergavenny and the Dragons cup first round match against Croesyceiliog.
