Following the excellent performance against Cwmbran the previous, the coaches and team travelled in hope of kicking on against a Whiteheads team which included a large number of players from last year's Newport Schools district team.

The team battled manfully, applying real pressure at the breakdown and harrying a very skillful backline into coughing up posession behind the gainline, but it wasn't quite enough as the Steelers executed their skills to bring the win home 32-0.

The coaches believe that you only improve by playing good teams and this loss will prove to be very good for our players development, giving them something to aim for and work hard in training to improve for the reverse fixture.

There were still many positives in defeat. Saints No8 Iwan Pitman, who was clearly motivated for this game, led from the front, hitting multiple rucks in succession, tackling hard and getting the side over the gainline on numerous occasions. Myles Duggan, when playing at outside half, really showed his good distribution skills to go along with his lethal sidestep.
