Saints put local rivals Caerleon to the sword in what was probably the team's best performance of the season.
Due to it being the Easter holidays, both teams were missing players, and the game had a festival feel about it as the game was played on half a pitch and with ten players on each side.
The first half was a close affair with the two sides scoring tries tit for tat and some good rugby on show. Shortly before half time, the home side took the lead and it looked as if the Young Saints' heads were about to lose confidence, as they have done on a couple of occasions this season, and let their opponents run away with the game.
The message at half time was to support the ball carrier and to stop competing in the ruck when the opposition had already won the ball, thus allowing more players to be in the defensive line and stopping overlaps occuring.
Saint Julians took the message on board and control of the game. Having more players "fanned out" in the backline made it difficult for Caerleon's quick backs to pass around the Saints defence. This allowed Saints to turn over the ball and score a couple of quick tries to retake the lead. Following this, the Young Saints tails were up and they scored 4 unanwsered tries in quick succession from kick offs following some sublime handling, decision making and support play. The link play and offloading, not to mention the draw and pass, had the coaches purring in delight as they saw all the hard work the players put in in training come to fruition during a game against a very good team.
It was a team performance to savour.
