Saints Bow Out of Dragons Cup Despite Gutsy Display Against Caerphilly

The Young Saints exited this year's Dragons cup competition despite putting in a battling display against a well drilled Caerphilly side at the Glebelands.

Saint Julians actually started the stronger of the two sides, dominating territory and possession in the first five minutes and twice creating overlaps which they failed to capitalise on due to some fantastic last cover defence from the Caerphilly wingers. From there, the visitors scored three tries in quick succession to stun the home side and take control of the game.

At half time, the coaches emphasised that the team had been playing extremely well and told them to give more of the same in the second half. This message was taken on board by the team and they again dominated the second half, keeping possession for long periods and winning it 7-5 due to a well worked try which was finished off by man of the match, Cian Knights.

In addition to Knights, who put his body on the line, and his head where most people wouldn't, Myles Duggan also had a fine game from full back. The young Irishman anticipating long kicks well and using good footwork to bring the ball back to the line and get his team over the gameline.

The game was a great spectacle and played in the great spirit. The coaches would like to extend their best wishes to Caerphilly for the rest of the tournament.
